Sylvia Copeland: Wild is love
Here is a fantastic song from a very rare LP (of 1965) performed in an Yma Sumac-esque fashion by the fabulous Sylvia Copeland.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, of Creole parentage, Sylvia Copeland began at a very early age a musical career, first on the piano, then as a singer. She performed in the most famous supper clubs of the USA, including Mr. Kelly's in Chicago. In the theatre she performed (in 1962) the role of Linda Low in Flower drum song and on Broadway she understudied Lena Horne in Jamaica. Gifted with an unusual range, she sang in various languages and at times recalls Eartha Kitt's style. Unfortunately she made only one LP but it contains remarkable and most original performances of classic standards, such as this one.
